Wesley "Wes" David Alven, age 70, of Lorain, died on Monday, March 5, 2012, at his residence, while under the care of Crossroads Hospice.
He was born on December 4, 1941 in Akron, he also lived in Avon Lake before moving to Lorain.
He graduated from Medina High School in 1960.
Wes owned and operated Wes Alven & Associates for over 30 years and also was life insurance agent for 38 years, having won awards in both industries.
Wes was a member of the former South Lorain Merchants Association, Moose Lodge #552, where he served on the EPA Board, American Legion, Avon Lake Kiwanis, Avon, VFW Post 8686, and the Lake Terminal International Referral Network.
Wes earned the First Degree in Black Belt Karate in 1978. Wes cherished his children, grand children and great grandson. His biggest joy in life aside from family was making people laugh, he always had a joke or two.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Linda (nee Karl); daughters, Jackie Marie Whalen, of Charlotte, NC, Mary Beth Finley, of Hudson, OH, Carol Ann Guggenbiller, of Sheffield Lake; a son, George Joseph Alven, of Lakewood; step-sons, Brian Bell, of Elyria Twp and Michael Bell of Liberty Twp, OH; 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and 4 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley O. in 1992 and Winifred (nee Cryer) Alven in 1995; his step father, Robert E. Welch in 2008; and a brother, George William Alven in 2004; his former wife, Martha E. (nee King) Alven in 1994.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. There will be a memorial luncheon on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the VFW Post 8686, 577 Harris Road, Sheffield Lake.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 9775 Rockside Road, Suite 270, Valley View, Ohio 44125.
