Edward Rastovski, Retired Lorain City Assistant Fire Chief, age 83, of Lorain, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Kingston of Vermilion while under the care of hospice surrounded by his family and friends.

A lifelong resident of Lorain, Edward was born on December 15, 1928 in Lorain to the late Mark and Mary (nee Fister) Rastovski. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1947.

He served as a private in the US Army from 1947-1948.

For 30 years, Edward worked as a firefighter for the City of Lorain. He was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief.

He was a member of St. Joseph church, Amherst. Edward enjoyed swimming, walking along beaches, reading and spending time with his family and friends. He and his late wife, Josephine, were snow birds for many years and then eventually spent many of their retirement years in Jensen Beach, Florida.

He is survived by his son, Mark (Debbie), of Amherst, and his daughter, Kamille (Joseph) Cocco, of Amherst; his grandchildren, Brad, Ryan, Todd, Kara and Cory Cocco and Scott Rastovski and Laura (Jarrod) Mihalic; and his great-granddaughter, Isabella Rastovski.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine (nee Pulgine) in 1999, his sisters, Mitzi Kraly and Anne Duell and his brother, Thomas Garkish.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Closing prayers will be said on Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the Funeral Center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Rev. Fr. Michael J. Denk, Associate Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
