Irene E. Helli (nee Csubak), age 91, of Lorain, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born on February 3, 1921 in Lorain, Ohio to John and Anna (nee Palagyi) Csubak.
Irene worked as an inspector for Western Automatic in Elyria during the 1940's for 5 years. She then worked as a clerk for various department stores in the Lorain area. In the 1960's, she worked for Reidy-Scanlan Funeral Home in Lorain for 5 years. For many years, Irene worked in the parish house at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church.
Irene was a member of the Church of St. Peter, Lorain where she was a member of the Holy Name Society. She was also a member of the former St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Lorain where she was very active with the Virgin Mary Society, Legion of Mary, Sacred Heart League, St. Ann's Auxiliary #287 of the Knights of St. John, the Hungarian dance group, and directed and sang in the church choir for over 60 years.
She is survived by her son, Michael E. Helli, of Lorain.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Michael G. Helli, in 1991;father, John Csubak, in 1931; mother, Anna (nee Palagyi) Csubak, in 1963; brothers, John in 1974, Steve in 1996, Frank, Paul in 1999 and Joe in 1917; sisters, Anna Zarvas, Mary Kovacs, and Helen Csubak in 1941.
The Helli family will receive family and friends on Monday, April 9, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst . The Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Closing prayers will be said on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 9:30a.m. in the Funeral Center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The family suggest contributions be made in her memory to the Restoration Fund at the Church of St. Peter.
